The Creative Arts & Sciences Committee has arranged for children’s book author and illustrator, Anna Alter, to bring an interactive presentation to Cabot’s 2nd graders.

Anna demonstrates the process of creating a children’s book in a way that students can easily understand and she invites children to participate as much as possible. She begins by showing childhood art projects, and discusses how they turned into the paintings she makes now. Anna talks about what inspired her to become an artist, with a focus on persevering at the things you love to do. Her presentation includes a start to finish explanation of how a book is made.  She begins by sharing her brainstorming process and how she works with her publishers to revise her ideas, writing, and sketches. Students will learn about how she creates her paintings and how the publisher reproduces them to create a finished, printed book. Anna will finish by drawing some of her characters, and some that her audience helps her to invent. The drawings will be left with the school for use in the classroom, a great jumping off point for an art or storytelling project.
