Local author of the Ballpark Mysteries series, David A. Kelly, turned his interest into a career when he began authoring children’s books. His first book, Babe Ruth and the Baseball Curse, was followed by the series, which now includes eleven stories taking place in ballparks all over the country. Through presentations that explore what it takes to develop an idea into a published book, Mr. Kelly helps students understand that you don’t have to be a writer to write. Being creative isn’t something that only artists do; it’s something that everyone can do—if they try.

The Creative Arts and Sciences Committee (CASC) implements curricular-related programs at elementary and middle schools in Newton. The PTOs at each school fund these programs. The programs align with Newton curricula, the Massachusetts’ curricular frameworks, system-wide goals, and core values. Programs enhance Art, English/ Language Arts, History, Social Studies, Music, Physical Education, and Science curricula.
