Creative Arts and Sciences Committee implements curriculum-related programs at elementary and middle schools in Newton. The PTOs at each school fund these programs. These programs align with Newton curricula, the Massachusetts’ curricular frameworks, system-wide goals, and school core values and aim to enhance Art, English/ Language Arts, History, Social Studies, Music, Physical Education, and Science curricula.
For our first performance this year, Klezmer Conservatory Band will visit Cabot School on November 7th. This performance is part of the city wide Concert Series for the 2013-2014 academic year. This educational program introduces the students to Yiddish language, examines the varied cultural sources that inspired Klezmer music and explores the significance of music. The musical instruments are presented as they might sound in their conventional settings, such as symphony orchestra or jazz ensemble, and as they sound in a Klezmer band. The extensive experience of this band allows the students direct contact with the Yiddish culture. It is our privilege to welcome this band to Cabot School, as they have recently completed their tour with Itzhak Perlman.
