This program for students in Grade 3 is about the land, the animals, and the native peoples of North America. Using a tipi as the classroom, certified teachers dressed in clothing of the western plains of the 1800’s present hands-on learning experiences concerning Native America and early American history. To help break down long perpetuated stereotypes, there are three major topics presented in each program:
- A comparison of the terms “Indian” and “Native American,”
- Native peoples did not all live in the same way, and
- There are currently descendants of these peoples.
Native American Perspectives is neither an assembly program nor a stage show, it is an interactive experience.
