Dear Cabot Families,
Newton Public Schools is implementing a new security system for the start of school. Beginning the first day of school, doors will be locked at all elementary schools until 8:20; students arriving for the early morning program will have to be buzzed in. Doors will be unlocked from 8:20 – 8:40. Classes will begin at 8:25 and students are considered tardy at 8:35. During the school day, you will need to ring the doorbell to enter the building and all visitors will only be admitted through the main entrance. You may be asked to present identification, as we have a new executive assistant in the office and she has not met many parents yet. Once in the building, we ask you to report to the office to get a visitor badge.
At dismissal, we ask parents to wait outdoors for children. Kindergartners will be dismissed outdoors at 3:00, and 12:30 on Tuesdays. Parents will need to enter the building for students who are dismissed at 12:30 on other days.
Please realize that our office staff consists of one person, Ms. Balise, and her responsibilities sometimes require her to be out of the office. You may need to wait for a response. If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please send a note to the office indicating the time. This will facilitate the process.
After 3:30, you can be buzzed in to the after school program via the main door to pick up your child.
We ask for your cooperation as we work out this new system.
- Security is only as good as those who use it.
- Never ask a staff member or child to open a locked door to allow you to enter.
- Do not allow others to come in who have not buzzed in and allowed access.
Thank you for your patience.
