There is good news on the Cabot Building project…
The building project process is progressing along on two paths this fall –one at the state level with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) and one with the City of Newton.
At the state level, the schematic designs have been submitted to the MSBA and recently received approval from the Massachusetts Historical Commission! This puts the project on track to be accepted into the next phase of the MSBA process at the November 9, 2016, MSBA Board meeting.
The project is also progressing through the next steps at the local level. Prior to the construction of any municipal building, Section 5-58 of the Newton City Code requires reviews of various Newton departments and committees. As a part of this process, the Public Facilities Committee held a forum for public comment on the project on Wednesday, October 19. Following a brief presentation and public comment, the committee voted unanimously to approve the site plan.
The next step in the City’s 5-58 process is the review/approval of Newton’s Finance Committee (Oct. 27, 2016), before the project plans go before the full City Council on November 21.
