Dear Cabot Families,

“Talking about Race: How & Why?”

On Wednesday, March 22nd, Newton Public Schools hosted a forum entitled “Talking to Children About Race: Why & How?” More than 125 parents and guardians from elementary schools across the district attended the event. During the evening, participants had the opportunity to reflect upon their own experiences with race, as well as receive “how-to” help for guiding children and answering challenging questions.

Did you miss the forum but are interested in potential follow up events and activities? Please click here to provide your contact information and indicate your areas of interest.

For more helpful information, resources, and articles, please visit this page on the district website:

We hope to continue the conversation in the coming months and will continue the work we are already doing in our school to explore, respect, and celebrate our differences.

Core Values Night

Thank you to all our families who joined us for Wednesday night’s engaging evening to learn about our Core Values. We hope you also learned a bit about our Responsive Classroom practices such as Morning Meetings including community-building greetings and games. The breakout sessions were intended to be fun, hands-on interactive experiences that supported our belief that having a growth mindset, grit and perseverance help us to creatively solve problems. The teachers and I thoroughly enjoyed our time with all of you! Thank you to the parents and former students who helped out throughout the evening. What a great Cabot tradition!

Let’s hope this is the last of the wintry weather!!

Warm wishes,

Eva Thompson
