Dear Cabot Families,

Impact of Election

Last week’s election results triggered a variety of responses across the nation that continue today. Teachers had the tremendous responsibility of setting aside their own feelings to consider and respond to the needs of our students. As anticipated, students came to school last Wednesday with a range of questions and comments that varied by age. Teachers used Morning Meetings to guide conversations by reminding students that at Cabot we all support one another with kindness and respect. Our core values proved to be a helpful reference for these conversations:

·       We take care of ourselves.

·       We take care of others.

·       We take care of our school.

Our school continues to be committed to ensuring that each child feels safe, welcomed and a part of our school community.

As always, if you or your child should have concerns or need additional assistance, there are a variety of supports available including your child’s teacher, the school psychologist, and social worker. We are here to support you and your child.

Looking forward – the Transition to Carr, an Update:

Building plans: We are in the process of finalizing the building layout with the architect. A furniture transition consultant is working with us to identify furniture needs and to assist with planning the physical move to Carr. We are enthusiastic about our new school and this exciting next step!

Cabot at Carr: Last Tuesday, the Cabot faculty boarded a school bus for a “field trip” to Carr School. Thank you to the Cabot and Zervas PTOs for hosting a delicious lunch for both faculties! Teachers were able to view their new space, plan classroom layouts, needs for storage and furniture, and more.

Transitioning: The faculty has convened three working groups to consider the needs of students, teachers and parents through the transition process. As we consider the move to Carr, the following are some preliminary plans, all in the process of development:

·       find ways to celebrate our school before departing,

·       build excitement for the transition to Carr through a variety of student activities,

·       arrange times for families to visit Carr,

·       update the Cabot community about future transportation needs including bus routes, routines and more.

We look forward to engaging you in this process in the weeks to come.

On behalf of the faculty, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!
